Setting up

Yellow and red on their starting rows

You can decide how many pieces each player will have, but we suggest three pieces each for a two-person game, one each for a six-way game, and two pieces each otherwise.

Start with your pieces anywhere in the five spots edged with the same colour. This places you opposite your “home row” (the perimeter spots of your own colour).

Moving

A basic move: yellow has thrown 2 and 3 and decides to move her own piece. She can either move 2 spots in the 3 direction (taking her closer to home) or move 3 spots in the 2 direction, capturing the red piece

Throw two dice and move any piece on the board (yes, even an opponent’s) using one die to determine the direction of the move and the other to set the distance.

If a move overshoots the edge, stop at the edge.

You must move a piece unless no valid moves are available to you.

A piece landing on its home row is taken off the board.

Capturing

If a moving piece lands on or passes over an occupied spot, the occupying piece is captured even if it is the same colour as the moving piece. The moving player puts a captured piece anywhere back in its starting row. Two or more pieces may be captured by one move.

a sneaky move: black has thrown 2 and 3 but that doesn’t help him much, so he decides instead to move the yellow piece 3 spots in the 2 direction, capturing red’s piece

Winning

The winner is the first player to get all their pieces off the board by reaching their home row.

With three or more players you can continue playing to decide second place and so on.
